Golf Club Fitting - Where Do You Start?

Golf club fitting can be a quick and easy way for you to improve your golf game. If you are looking for a driver, a hybrid or an entire set of irons, what should you consider to make sure you are happy with your new golf club or golf clubs?
Your golf equipment is very personal choice for you and as your clubs work for you, that is all that matters. No matter your skill level, you must like the club head design when you take your set up. If you do not feel like you can make a good swing with a club, you probably will not. What else should you consider when looking for new golf equipment? Here are a few more ideas.
1. With all of the golf club offerings available, you need to acknowledge your skill level. Each golf club manufacturer has offerings for low to high handicappers. As a high handicap golfer, you need to become familiar with the center of gravity or the CG of the club. You will want a low center of gravity as this will help you get the golf ball into the air and typically results in more distance.
The golf club manufacturers lower the center of gravity by moving weight around on or within the club head. With an iron head, the CG will be lowered by using perimeter weighting on a set of irons. It is harder to see how the CG is manipulated in most drivers, as the manufactures relocate weight inside the head of the driver. The lower your golf handicap, the center of gravity can get higher in the club head. A higher center of gravity will allow you to intentionally hit golf shots which make the ball move left or right.
2. It is important that you are able to hit the clubs off of real turf during a golf club fitting in order to see the entire ball flight before you decide to purchase a driver or a set of irons. In addition, buy your clubs from a PGA Professional that will use a launch monitor. The launch monitor will reveal such statistics such as swing speed, clubhead speed and the golf ball's spin rate. This will allow the club fitter to find the correct shaft for you.
3. How do I find a qualified club fitter? I would retort with how do you find other professionals like doctors, dentists, etc.? Ask other fellow golfers, your friends and co-workers about experiences they had had good or bad. Also contact local golf shops and ask to speak to a qualified fitter. Ask him or her how the process of the club fitting will go and make sure you are comfortable with the professional.
Once you have found your golf club fitter, it is important that you armed with the proper questions to ask your fitter. In addition, remember the fitter is there to help you so do not be afraid to ask any question you might have. The proper questions to ask prior to or during your fitting are as follows:
- Is the professional certified by a major manufacturer to fit their clubs?
- How experienced is the PGA Professional?
- Will I be fit outdoors to see the entire ball flight?
- Does the PGA Professional have a fitting cart or multiple fitting carts with what you are looking for (Mens, Ladies, steel, graphite, right-handed, left-handed clubs) available?
- What will the session cost?
- If I purchase the clubs from you, will the cost of the club fitting be put towards the purchase?
- Will a launch monitor be used during the session?
- How the professional came to the conclusion of your specs? Make sure you understand how the conclusion is achieved and make sure you understand the logic.
Having a properly fit set of golf clubs is an easy way to improve your golf game. With the information in this article, you are well armed to find the correct certified golf club fitter, how to become comfortable with your fitter and what questions to ask to insure you receive a proper golf club fitting. You will be shooting lower scores with your new clubs very soon.

Clap For Your Golf Grip

You do not have to look past the PGA, LPGA or Champions Tours to see there is not one conventional way to take your golf grip on a golf club. The tours have all types of grips from an overlap golf grips to interlocking golf grips to ten finger golf grips and even cross-handed grips. Ben Hogan outlined his thoughts about the grip in his classic book, The Modern Fundamentals. Your proper golf grip should feel comfortable to you. However, there are fundamentals for your proper golf grip. By simply clapping your hands together you can easily test your golf grip fundamentals. Here is how you do it.
When you are ready, allow your arms to hang naturally. Now take your regular golf stance without a golf club. Since your do not have a club to grip, stand with your palms flat together. Notice how the palms of your hands are parallel. Now that you are in you proper set up with your palms being parallel to each another, this results in a good golf grip fundamental. If your hands are not parallel to each other, your hands with fight against each other trying to get back to impact.
With your palms of your hands being parallel to each other, your hands will now work together as one unit.
Now, take your golf grip on your golf club. Straighten out your fingers while still holding the club in your hand and open your palms just wide enough to reveal if your palms are parallel. If your palms are parallel, then you have this grip fundamental conquered. If your palms are not parallel to each other, you need to work your hands around on your club until your palms are parallel. Now retake your golf grip. You need to realize that this new feeling should be your new grip.
The palm of your right hand as well as backside of your left hand will be facing your target if you choose to assume a neutral grip. A higher handicap player typically needs to use a stronger grip to release the golf club. For a stronger grip, the back of your left hand would be tilted towards the sky with the palms still parallel.
This article about your golf grip gives you a quick way to test a fundamental part of your proper grip. Once you are able to insure that your grip includes that your palms are parallel to each other, you should be lowering your scores soon. Your golf handicap will be falling as a result as well.

Junior Golf Instruction - How To Start Your Child

Your kids are getting to the age that they would like to start to play golf and you are wondering when to start a junior golf instruction program. Knowing when to start and how to find the right junior golf lessons for a child are crucial components to building an environment for your child to enjoy and succeed in the game of golf.
Begin by asking yourself, not your junior, some questions about what your motivation might be for getting their junior golf lessons. Four reasons that parents want junior golf lessons for their young child (under eleven) typically are the following:
Because of golf's reputation for rules, fair play and self-policing, the parents have a genuine interest in seeing their children attempt to play the game.
A babysitting service, parents get a time out from their kids for a while.
Parents want to spend more time with their child and have decided that golf will be the vehicle to do this.
As so many do, parents feel that their children must be in as many activities as possible.
Whatever your reasons are for wanting your child to begin to play the game of golf, the important thing is to ensure the kids have fun and enjoy themselves. Golf is a great game that can teach your child many life skills and is a game they can play the rest of their life.
The most important thing to do is ask your child if playing golf is something that they would like to do. If the answer is no, do not push them to play. You do need to make sure that they understand the option is always open for them to play. It make take you asking multiple times and giving them the information they need to feel comfortable to begin playing the game.
Once your child decides that they do want to play golf here are some steps to take to get them started and to keep the game fun for them:
Begin with a real junior set of clubs. Many people think that by making a club shorter it will fit a junior golfer. This is NOT true. You need to find a company that specially and properly weights their junior golf clubs depending on the size of your child. In addition, you do not need to buy a whole set. Most companies will allow you to purchase junior clubs one at a time.
Find a qualified junior golf instructor. You can contact your local PGA Section or a local club or golf course either by phone or online. If a Certified PGA Professional is available in your area, he or she would be a good place to start.
Make sure that your series of junior golf lessons include sessions on the rules of golf as well as golf etiquette. Depending on their age, the rules and etiquette situations do not need to be deep in the heart of the rule book. It has always amazed me on what a child at any age can retain when they want to learn.
Your junior does not have to play a "real golf hole" to have fun. Make the putting green the goal. This is a good way for the younger junior golfers to get started and as it reads only count the shots that it takes to get to the green to determine a score.
The hole does not need to be the end of the hole. What does this mean? Some smaller juniors find it more fun to hit it into a bunker than onto a green.
This may seem counter-intuitive to many golf purists however, once you think about it, typically the bunkers are smaller than the putting greens. This can only make them better later. In addition, they LOVE to climb into the bunkers and this gives us a chance to teach bunker etiquette.

Junior Golf Instruction - When To Start Golf Lessons

A question we hear all of the time is "When should we start junior golf instruction for our junior golfer?" Obviously, there is no real answer. For example, you have Tiger that started at the tender age of three and other successful tour players started their junior golf instruction much later.
With many differing opinions are out there about when to begin junior golf instruction, you must remember that opinions are like belly buttons and everyone has one! Hale Irwin was once quoted as saying, "If a parent brings a young child to a Pro and says I want him/her to be a Golf Professional, chances are they won.t be." The two most important part to the answer the question of "When should we start golf lessons for our junior golfer?" is that no matter what age your junior golfer is to make sure golf is something the junior golfer wants to do and to keep it fun for them.
First, you need to ask yourself some questions about what your motivation might be for getting junior golf instruction? Typically, there are four reasons that parents want junior golf instruction for their young child (under eleven):
1. Because of golf's reputation for rules, fair play and self-policing, the parents have a genuine interest in seeing their children attempt to play the game.
2. A babysitting service, parents get a time out from their kids for a while.
3. Parents want to spend more time with their child and have decided that golf will be the vehicle to do this.
4. As so many do, parents feel that their children must be in as many activities as possible.
Again, whatever the reasons, the important thing is to let the kids have fun, enjoy themselves and let them decide for themselves whether they want to play the game of golf or not.
Regardless of how brilliant parents think their child is, young children (under eleven) do not have the attention spans for kids golf lessons. However, they do like to have fun and to some hitting balls is fun. As soon as you make it a chore by hovering over them with golf instructions, they will not want to play the game anymore. Think about it, would you?
If you want your youngster to enjoy golf, then don't force the action. If they want to hit balls, let them. If they want to pick golf balls up and throw them, as long as they will not disturb anyone else, let them. If they want to hit their ball into the sand bunker, let them. When you think about it, a bunker is much smaller than the green and in theory, much harder to hit. Depending on their age, let them tee it up from 100 yards or 150 yards. Again, keep it a positive experience and fun for the junior golfer.
If you do decide to take junior golf instruction the Golf Professional should concentrate mainly on short game, putting, chipping etc. The Golf Professional should show you as well as your junior many different games that you can play to keep it fun. In the meantime, the games will instill solid golf swing fundamentals which will help you and your junior to improve!

What Does Golf Have to Do With the 4 Horses?

In the “Shime” chapter of the Shobogenzo, Zen Master Dogen Zenji discusses the “four horses,” which is a metaphor used by the Buddha in the Samyuta-Agama sutra. This metaphor of the four horses speaks about how we are when we practice the game of golf— four, one could say, classes of students. The first horse, the superior class, is like a horse that runs fastest by merely feeling the whip's shadow. The second horse, the good class, runs fastest when the whip brushes its hair, the hair of its mane. The third horse, the poor class, runs fastest where the whip has actually touched its flesh. And the fourth, the lowest kind of horse, is the one who runs fastest only when the whip can be felt to the marrow of its bones. At first glance we all want to be like the first horse in the superior class. These are the fast learners...the ones who seem to be a natural. Dogen Zenji says this may not be so desirable. A study of master golfers has shown that it is not the students with innate natural abilities who have achieved golf mastery. The golfers who have achieved mastery are mostly the students with average to below average natural abilities...the ones who have practiced their craft diligently. This is very interesting...why is this so? The road to mastery for all students has many plateaus in skill levels interrupted by brief spikes in improvements. When the first class of student takes up golf they see an immediate spike in improvement in their skill level and are very motivated. When they reach that ultimate first plateau where they do not improve despite hard practice, most gifted students get discouraged. Gifted students are used to seeing fast progress, so they may blame the instructor or something else just so they don't have to put in the hard work that is needed to attain mastery. Many superior students will then give up the game due to frustration. Superior athletes who never make it big are seen in ALL sports. We all have heard countless stories about gifted athletes who never made it big because they weren’t willing to put the time in needed to reach their innate potential. The fourth class of student will see slow improvements, much time spent on plateaus in their skill level. If the fourth class of golf student stays with it and practices hard they will learn the golf to the marrow of their bones, like the fourth horse. Before you can master ANY skill, you need to learn the skill to the marrow of your bones. To learn golf to the marrow of your bones you need to stay at each skill level for however long it takes. Most first class students never learn the skill to the marrow of their bones because it comes easy to them. The time spent on plateaus for students who learn fast are shorter than the ones who learn slower. The paradox of the four horses parable is we must practice like the fourth class of horse to become like the first class of horse. Hit 'em Long and Straight! John Lynch

Golf Mastery - What is the Key?

The key to golf mastery is simplicity.

Golf is actually really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

You can increase your understanding of any complex subject by progressing from the simple to the complex.

Take the fundamentals of a sound golf game and divide it into the following five parts and focus on these ONLY.

1.The grip. 2.The setup. 3.The back swing. 4.The down swing. 5.The short game (chipping, sand play, and putting)

Master each one of these parts, and becoming a scratch golfer will not be too difficult.

By understanding the simple, you can understand the complex.

Becoming a scratch golfer is simple after you have arrived at it.

But it is simple only when you know what IT is.

Nothing is simpler than greatness: for to be simple is to be great.

Divide your golf game into simple parts, master each part, and you will become a great golfer!

The hardest thing for golfers who have been playing for a long time is to change a bad habit.

If your bad habit is you sway off the ball and you are working on swinging around a stable spine, this move will feel very different to you.

You may even think it is wrong because it feels so different...

In fact, there is a good chance that your golf game will suffer the next time you hit the course.

Most golfers revert back to their old bad habit because of ego, embarrassment, or whatever...

Don’t fall into this trap...

"There is no room for God in him who is full of himself." -- Hasidic saying

These golfers will never get any better and will always stay on the same plateau they have been on for years.

Some golfers have been on the same plateau as far as golf skill level for 30 or even 40 years. If you are happy with the plateau you are on...

Fine.

However, if you truly are committed to reaching that next level in your golf game you need to go through the pain of learning the proper moves which will eventually eliminate the bad habits you have acquired over the years.

You will have to practice any new move in golf for 21 consecutive days before it becomes habit.

This biological fact has already been proven by kinesthetic scientists...

So accept it for crying out loud!!

If this new golf move causes a major change in your golf swing, I recommend only working on the new swing move and nothing else during this 21 day period.

Divide the complex into simple parts...

Master the simple and you will achieve greatness in your golf game!

Don’t work on too many things at the same time, this will lead to paralysis by analysis.

If you decide you want to play golf during the period you are learning a new move...

Play golf!

Don’t work on this new move on the course, dance with which you brought to the course...

You should only be thinking about getting the ball in the cup in the least amount of strokes...

Play golf...

Don’t play swing!

Practice on the range or at home, not on the course.

If your scores and ball striking suffer while you are learning a new move in your swing, tell your self this simply means you are working toward the next level in your game and this is normal.

Just have fun on the course.

Hit 'em Long & Straight!

Exceptional Golf Courses of the World: The Royal Dornoch Golf Club of Sutherland Scotland

The Royal Dornoch Golf Club of Sutherland Scotland's history goes as far back as "the Dornoch Links" in the cost of the golf clubs and golf balls belonging to the young Earl of Sutherland in the time period of year of 1616. Its amazing that over all the millennia how little has changed in the minds and mentality of golfers , fellow golfers and those in charge of golf courses and their administration.
The description of the area surrounding the Dornoch Links at the time was "About this town along the sea coast are the fairest and largest links or green fields in any part of Scotland. Fitt for archery, golfing, ryding and all other sorts of exercises they doe surpass the fields of Monroe or St. Andrews".
To this day the Royal Dornoch can be said to place consistently in among the top 100 of the greatest golf courses of the world.
It seems from the initial records of the course and young Earl of Sutherland's golf equipment not much was recorded or noted until 1852, when George Dempster of Skibo, a St. Andrew's golfer, played a round with a party over the Dernoch Links. Sometime in the time interval between the years of 1616 and 1852, the Sutherland Golfing Society was established, its members played at both the Dornoch and Golspie.
The Dornoch Links were at this early point only nine holes in extent. These original links were formed in much the same primal way as the "Old Course" at St. Andrews: an Ice Age glacier carved the land and deposited sand dunes which, over time were stabilized by the growth of seaside grasses, and finer grassy texture was added via inland grass seeds deposited on the linkland via the wooly coats of grazing sheep.
In 1883, the legendary "Old Tom" Morris came up from St. Andrews to lay out a formal nine holes. In 1866, at the direction of John Sutherland, another nine holes were added to the golfing course, and thus Dornoch now had 18 holes in its golf setup, as per the standard set at the St. Andrews golf course 122 years earlier.
Thus Dornoch not only was growing in the size of its golf course, but also in reputation. In 1894 it held its first golfing competition - the tournaments of their time.
28 men from Moray met 28 golfers from Dornoch at the Dornoch links. The Dornoch golfing team went on to solidly defeat their visitors 246 holes to none. Even more importantly the Moray men did not only take the defeat as not only a case of playing on home ground, but rather that the Dornoch course was anything but impressive. Indeed the historic report recorded was the "the links surpassed anything we imagined. The turf is of excellent quality. Everyone was charmed with the course".
Thus it is no accident that the Royal Dornoch Golf Club at Sutherland in Scotland merits such a reputation - both as the historic golf course, and also has continued on with its fine reputation to be always regarded as one of the top 100 golf courses in the world. It's no accident and it's no accident that the greatest dream of many golf aficionados and golfers generally is to play and be challenged by this fine golf course which has always commanded great respect and merit.

How to Custom Fit Your Golf Club

Custom fitting golf club need to be put in a consideration in choosing a golf club as it is very important. It will also tailor the game to the golfer. As we know, each and every golfer is different in terms of their physical capability, and even the way they swing. So, custom fitting golf club was designed to a certain standardized specifications that fit for lie angle, shaft type and length, grip type, and size. It also will drive us for simple measurements and a nimble self-value of the game. With this, it’s not impossible for anyone aside professional golfer to have a good game.

The custom fitting is the process for tailoring a golf club according to a golfer needs. This can enhance the player’s confident level while playing golf.

No matter in which level you stand as a golf player, you still can achieve high performance game with a custom golf club because it will fulfill and follow your needs so that you’ll be able to make a nice swing and a proper straight shot.

The following are how to custom fit your golf clubs:

First of all, what needs to be considered is the gender, the distance from your wrist where it bends to the floor without shoes, age, height in stockings or socks, skill level, what club being used at the 150 yard marker, and lastly your swing speed.

In the golf industry, the “standard length” has been set differently for men and women, so that’s why gender need to be known in order to get exact fitting scale custom golf clubs.

To determine the length of your custom golf club that suits you well, your height and the space apart (in inches) from your wrist to the floor are gathered. The club length usually vary up to 3 and a half inch in the scope from ladies to men which then plus 1 and a half inch. This means that the taller the person, with a longer arms, will calls for shorter clubs compare to a person with an average height, with shorter arms. According to the golf industry, it was found that almost 80 percent of golfers stand in a standard length.

The rest of information need to be considered such as age, established skill level, handicap whether you are, or used to be, how fast you swing, and also the club that you use at the 150 yard marker, were all being possessed together to get the custom golf club’s  shaft flex that will works best with you.

If your club is too flat, it will cause you to slice the ball, which also means that the toe of your club is influencing the ball. Besides having a flat club, we can also say these were caused by our swing fault. Whatever it is, custom fitting can fix all this, but only after you had gone through the custom fitting process where your golf club will be more appropriate and fit you well.

In finding a really exact and satisfying club for each golf club manufacturers, different ways and method of fitting were used with only one objective that is to find a magnificent golf club for everyone to enhance their performance. It all begin with gathering such simple measurements like wrist-to-floor, height, and even hand size where then will bring you to the appropriate club size. Not only that, you also need to hit some balls for more accurate result.

One of the methods is to put an impact tape on the base of the custom golf club and an impact board on the floor. As the ball been hit, the board will then leave a mark on the tape that shows the toe or the heel of the custom golf club that strike the floor first as. The mark will gives an answer whether the club faces needs to be altered more upright or flatter. As the practical methods being used, there’s been a progress in such methods. Analysis equipment then was used. This superb equipment can measure everything that need to be known in finding the right club such as the club speed, the launch angle of the ball, and even the angle which the custom golf club approaches the ball.

Many people think that custom fitting is only for an expert golfer. This is totally wrong. Anyone even the beginner can use it and in fact, they’ll find it easier. So, whenever you reach the point where you need to replace your old set of clubs, take this opportunity to get a new custom fitting clubs. Yes, by having custom fitting won’t make you achieve good shots. All you need is a good coaching and practice. But still, by having a nice great swing with a custom fitting, you can at least produce a straight nice shot.

Don’t worry. Custom fitting is usually free of charge when you buy some clubs after you get fitted. It always depends on your budget, and finally, always makes yourself free to get fitted when you buy a new set of clubs as it will satisfy you, and it’s really worth it.

Bulk golf balls com from a variety of sources. Some are used balls still in mint condition. Others are logo overruns. This means that a company designed a large number of balls with a specialty logo and may have accidentally ordered too many. Another scenario is that a company ordered golf balls with their company logo and a mistake may have been made on the design. If the company decides not to take them, these perfectly good, brand new golf balls will be sold as bulk golf balls at a discounted rate.
Getting a handle on the grading system
A dealer who specializes in providing bulk golf balls usually has some sort of grading system in place to help consumers determine the quality of the balls being sold. Bulk golf balls are available in a variety of conditions. Lower grade balls are good for practice. Some lower grade golf balls are only one grade lower than Mint or AAA golf balls, so they still perform well. They may be lower grade only because they have the previous owner's initials written on the surface, or have a few minor marks from being played a few times.
emium golf balls are commonly graded as Mint. The grading system then follows with AAA, AA, Grade A balls and so on. These grading systems vary from dealer to dealer, so it's a good idea to become familiar with a dealer's system and ask questions before making a purchase. You may have a difficult time telling the difference between high grade bulk balls and a new pack of brand name balls. In fact, the only difference between these two ball types is usually the price. You still get the same performance using these bulk golf balls.
Why buy bulk balls?
Whether bulk golf balls are used balls or overruns, they provide golfers with an opportunity to save significantly on golf ball purchases. If you are looking for a large number of cheap golf balls for driving practice, or if you are a novice golfer just getting to know the game, bulk golf balls are an affordable option.
The choice is yours
Why spend an arm and a leg to replace all of the balls you lose on a course or driving range? Why spend more than you need to on your favorite brand name golf balls? Buying bulk golf balls is the solution to getting a large number of well-performing low grade and high grade balls at a discounted rate.

How To Choose The Right Golf Tournament Format

There are many popular ways to hold a golf tournament. If you are having a hard time figuring out which format to hold your golf tournament then you might consider a few things. Some of the formats are for fun and laid back while others are formal and serious for the true competitors.
The Scramble is the most common format when you are holding a golf tournament with teams. This allows your tournament to have 2, 3, and 4 person teams. This type of play allows the team members to choose the one best shot from each stroke. After the best stroke is chosen, all of the players will then hit the ball from the best stroke shot. There are many types of Scramble people like to play including Texas Scramble, Florida Scramble, and Ambrose.
If you are holding a golf tournament and you choose the Best Ball format then all people will play their own ball at every hole. This is a team play also but everyone hits their own ball. After each hole is completed then the lowest score of the teams will serve as the team score. Best Ball is also known as Four Ball. There are variations that include 1-2-3 Best Ball also. This is a favored way to play in a golf tournament because people like to hit their own balls.
Alternate shot is a format for a golf tournament allowing for two person teams. This is also sometimes called a Foursome game. What happens with an alternate shot is that two players on a team will alternate hitting the shots from the tee. One ball will be used between the two team members. One player will hit the ball off the tee and the two will take turns until the ball is in the hold. The alternating will occur between shots and off of the tees. This may result in the same person having the final shot in the hole and the next shot off of the tee if they don't tee off on that particular hole. Some games that are also alternate shots games include odds and evens and Scotch Foursomes.
The Modified Stableford is played by teams or individuals. In a Modified Stableford the highest score is what wins. The score on each hole is worth a certain amount of points as you par. The more points you have then the higher you are in your rank. A good example of a well known golf tournament that is a Modified Stableford format is the PGA Tour.
Another format of a golf game in a golf tournament may be the Chapman. This is also known as the Pinehurst. This format of a tournament has team play with two people on each team. Chapman actually combines several formats into one. In an event like this the teammates will switch balls after each of their shots at the tee. They will select the one best ball after their second shot and then play the alternate ball until they make the hole.
A Bingo Bango Bongo is one of the most popular formats for a golf tournament. This is the most common game for golf association tournaments and league tournaments. This format rewards players for three specific things on each hole. The team to have the first player on the green, the first team to have the all players on the green or closest to the green all at once, and the first player to put the golf ball in the hole.
Flags is another format for playing in a golf tournament. This is a common way to play also. This format of golf makes all golfers to begin their round with a set number of strokes. The strokes will be related to their handicaps. Each player will play until their strokes run out. The player who can make it the furthest with their amount of strokes wins the game.
The Lone Ranger format of a golf tournament is another team play. This game is also known as Money Ball, yellow Ball and Pink Ball. This game puts the ownership of a hole on one player on the team to make the hole. Each team has four players. Players will rotate at each hole as the long ranger. The score of each player on the team is added up and the team with the lowest score wins the round of golf.
There are many formats of golf. If you are holding a golf tournament at a specific golf course you might consider asking around to find out what the people favor the most. Scramble is the most common game to play at a tournament for golf.

Everything You Need to Known About Golf Balls

Believe it or not, but the first golf balls in the early 1800s were called "featheries" and were actually made of a leather pouch that was rolled tight and packed with wet feathers then dried into a hard and solid ball. The average drive on "feathery" was about 150-175 yards. Today's standards are very different, aren't they?
We have come a long way from those days and experience has tough us that a rough ball flew a bit better than a smooth one bringing us to the current dimpled features of a modern golf ball. Why does a golf ball have dimples? A smooth ball is effected by the drag of atmosphere both on air flow behind the ball as well as separation of the air around it. The dimples on the ball allow for these two types of drag to count act granting the ball a more free flight through the air.
So, what makes a ball a golf ball? According the United States Golf Association (USGA), a ball must fall within these specific requirements to be officially recognized as a golf ball, which generally means that:
1. The weight of the ball cannot be greater than 1.620 ounces or 45.93 gm.
2. The diameter of the ball cannot be greater than 1.680 inches or 42.67 mm.
3. The ball must be round and cannot be designed or intentionally changed to have properties different than a round, symmetrical object.
4. The speed, initial velocity, roll and carry of the ball must meet and not exceed USGA test standards.
For a full list of conforming golf balls, please refer to the United States Golf Association (USGA) official website for more specific information on rules guidelines and testing standards.
A full variety of speciality golf balls are available and many tout extra qualities such as longer drive, higher accuracy or a design especially for men/women. While some design changes in dimple patterns and core density may effect the travel of the ball, it is best to try out a few brands before making your final decision on a good fit for you. After all, it will takes years of practice and dedication to develop your own personal accuracy level and, at that point, you will notice more finite changes in specific golf balls.
Can you reuse and recycle golf balls? Of course, a found golf ball that is not too scuffed or discolored is probably fair game for the average golfer. But, there has been some research to indicate that golf balls recovered from a significant amount of time in the water (noted by the discoloration) have absorbed too much moisture to launch properly from impact with the club head. So, think about the time, wear and tear on those golf balls before plucking them out of the pond. Or, if you are considering buying reclaimed golf balls from an industrious caddy that has been digging in the swamp.

How to Get Golf on the School Curriculum Without Going to the Golf Course

Children are exposed to a variety of sports from a young age at school, at after-school clubs and at school-holiday activity breaks. Trying a range of sports enables them to discover where their talents and passions lie.

But the range of sports being offered is hardly comprehensive and children aren’t really getting the chance to try everything – including one of the most important games that is even being considered for the next Olympics – golf.

The problem is that it is completely impractical to take kids en mass to a golf course, which means that golf is one sport kids all seem to miss out on as part of their physical education.

The solution then is to provide something that offers an indoor golf coaching system; something that feels real and that gives the children the opportunity to properly swing a club and take a shot, and then see how they’ve done.

An indoor golf training aid that gives instant feedback would enable schools and sports clubs to introduce students to golf without even stepping outside the sports hall. It would need a scoring system to provide the opportunity to make the coaching competitive – very important where children are concerned because adding an element of competition always increases concentration and dedication.

Whatever golf coaching aid is chosen, it must be possible to use it safely in a confined space such as a sports hall. It must have a scoring system and give instant feedback so that it is ideal for schools and activity centres wishing to add golf tutoring to their curriculum. It will eliminate the need for trips to the golf course, and make the sport accessible to everyone at school, at the sports centre, at the gym or even at home.

Maybe the next leading lights in golf are in your class or members of your sports club? How will you ever know if you don’t give them the opportunity to try the game? Get kids playing golf – indoors in your sports hall – as part of the sports curriculum. Our future sports personalities may depend on it!

Slow Down You Move Too Fast - Golf Swing Basics

If you are a beginner golfer then you know that to make the ball go a long way you need to hit the ball hard and fast, Right?? Well yes and no.
The golf swing basics involve a number of aspects that you need to get right. The speed of your golf club head is only one of these aspects.
There are about a half dozen elements in the basics of a good golf swing and while every one will do them slightly differently, sticking to the golf swing basics will help prevent the beginner golfer from thinking too hard about their golf swing.
The Basics of the Golf Swing
The first part of your golf swing is the mental part. Many would say that this is where most games are won and lost on the golf course. For the starter golfer you never want to look stupid on the first tee when you thwack your ball into the trees or the nearest lake. You need to blank out all thoughts and surroundings when addressing the golf ball and just think about where you plan the ball to go. Do not give any thought time to how you will feel if you miss. Just focus on your shot.
One of the pressurizing aspects of taking a golf shot is that you are always being watched. You have your opponents and maybe the following group watching your every move. You must ignore all of this outside attention and just work through your shot. Make it clear what you are going to do and then do it.
Because you are a beginner it will not always work but that is not the issue. If you are in charge mentally then you will eventually get more right than you will wrong.
Controlling Your Swing Speed for More Accuracy
This is the single simple most important golf tip that you can adopt to improve you accuracy and distance. Control your golf club. If you are swinging your golf club so fast that it is not under full control then you will never get the distance you need. Swing your club as fast as you can while still being in control of the moment of contact. By slowing your club down by up to 30% speed you will actually increase your distance. This is as a result of better contact with the sweet spot of the golf club face.
Whether you are a hooker or a swinger of the golf ball this slowing down of the golf club will ensure better distance and very quickly reduce your banana golf shots. Your swing technique will improve as you take control of the pace of your golf swing.
Another mistake with the speed of your swing is to try and speed up in the last 18 inches before contact with the golf ball. By doing this you will again lose the straight shooting you are looking for. You must make your swing smooth on the backswing and smooth and controlled on the downswing. The club head will naturally gain momentum on the way down. There is no need to force it.
Once you know you have control of the clubhead then you can consider trying to add more speed to your swing. But do not think about the speed when you are hitting the ball. Think about being in control of your swing

Current Opportunities in Professional Golf Careers

The concept of a professional golf career is not limited to the high-caliber players whose faces grace the covers of sports magazines and who sign million-dollar endorsements without batting an eyelash. While becoming a professional golfer certainly has its perks - most notably in a sports-filled lifestyle, plenty of money, and a little fame to go along with it - it is an incredibly competitive and difficult field to break into.
However, because golf is such a popular pastime among those who excel at the sport (as well as those who simply love the game), there are thousands of golf clubs and resorts around the globe. Each one of these requires staff and regular maintenance, so behind-the-scenes professional golf careers are actually quite numerous. They also offer a host of possibilities - from the cashier in the pro shop to the director of the PGA Tour.
The Truth about Professional Golf Careers
Individuals who work in golf careers on a managerial or professional level (such as those who create marketing campaigns or oversee a golf resort) are almost always people who combine their love of golf with good business sense. In today's vocational market, it isn't enough to simply get a business degree and find a place to put it to work; in fact, more and more graduates combine their business training with another passion - be it golf, electronics, or fashion - to carve out a career that offers personal as well as professional satisfaction.
The best thing about the current market for professional golf careers is the variety. When faced with the prospect of finding a job in the golfing world, most people's thoughts instantly run to the highly visible positions. They imagine jobs as professional golfers, directors of tournaments, or marketing managers of the PGA Tour. However, as with all professions, there are only a few spots at the highest rung of the ladder.
This doesn't mean that you should quit your search for the perfect professional golf career; on the contrary, there are many additional options available. Instead of running the PGA Tour, you could work behind the scenes at the PGA. With offices and facilities all over the world, you aren't limited as to where you can work or in what capacity. As with all national organizations, there is a need for office staff, supervisors, managers, and administrators.
Since even getting into the PGA at the entry-level can be complicated, so there are even more choices at independent golf courses and resorts all over the world. Whether operated privately or as a government course, facilities still have to be managed, courses have to be designed and maintained, and someone has to wash the golf carts.
Starting Your Professional Golf Career
At first, professional golf careers might sound like the pinnacle of glamour. Fame, fortune, and good old-fashioned fun abound. However, there are many layers to golfing vocations. No matter what your educational background is or where your interest lies, there is a place where you can work directly with the game you love and the skills you possess.
To enhance your potential to break into the field and find success, you may want to consider attending a golf school. Offering Associate and Bachelor degrees, many of these programs combine the business training necessary to succeed behind the scenes with the basic golf skills that keep the job fun. There is no better way to combine passion and practicality. With the right training and an open mind, a professional golf career is closer than you think.

New Women’s Golf Apparel Selections Add Fashion to the Green

Golf has become a much more eclectic sport than it has previously been thought as. Despite popular belief, lots of women love the sport of golf. We all know that men enjoy the relaxation and leisurely pace that comes with a good game of golf among friends, and let me tell you, so do women! I mean let’s think about this: in addition to being leisurely, golfing provides women with one of their major enjoyments: socializing! Since golf can be done as a solo sport or with a group, many women flock to the sport as a chance to get physical exercise, enjoy some sunshine and fresh air, and meet with their closest friends and catch up on what's going on with one another. It's also very well known that women love to be stylish and fashionable. Golf is no longer a sport for the retired crowd. Younger and younger women are becoming involved with this fun outdoor activity, and so many manufacturers are paying attention, and creating lines of clothing and womans golf apparel just for them! Womans golf shirts are a very popular choice for purchasing. These shirts closely resemble mens golf shirts, but there are a few differences. First and foremost, the shirt is designed for a woman to wear, so the making of it and cut of the material, seams, etc. take into account a woman's bust and hips. Also, the shirt may be a bit longer, and most of these golf shirts will also hug the waist with a nice comfortable taper. Like the mens shirts, womans golf shirts come in a variety of colors (yes ladies, you can buy them in pink!), materials, stripes, polka-dots, plaids and solids, and a few different styles. Most of the shirts available feature sun protection as well. Shoe manufacturers are catering to the preferences of woman golfers, and today's lineup of womans golf shoes proves that statement to be true! Puma, adidas, Nike and many other manufacturers of shoes and golf shoes are creating lines just for women. Womens golf shoes are designed with comfort and support in mind, but style hasn't been forgotten! They make womens golf shirts to match! With colors like black, pink and baby blue, woman golfers will be able to match their shoes to their outfits. Why go grab another cup of coffee? Mix it up a bit and try something new. You may find as I have that Golf is actually a quite fun and satisfying pass time. Not only is it fun, but the whole ritual of Golfing from what you are going to wear to what bag your precious set of clubs will go in. The sport is physical – but not overwhelming. Women and men alike need their daily dose of sunshine to boost that mood and feeling the grass beneath your feet, this helps remind us of the constant life happening all around us, all the time.

San Diego Golf Schools Equipment 101

There is a lot of different equipment that golfers in San Diego golf schools use during competitions and practices. There are things that are common, like the club and the golf ball, and there are things that are not so common, like adhesive clubface surfaces and rangefinders. This is a rundown of some of the equipment that pertains to golf, and whether or not they can be used at San Diego golf schools or in competitions or if they are illegal.
First we will cover the more common pieces of equipment that go with the game of golf. The golf ball first appeared as a small ball made of leather with feathers inside, and was called a featherie. Modern golf balls have multiple layers, and have a rubber core. Why does a golf ball have all of those dimples? The ball is covered with 300 450 of them to improve the aerodynamics of the ball. As for clubs, there are three main types: the club, the iron, and the wood. Wedges are irons that are used for short shots. Woods are used for long shots from the fairway or tee, and irons are for the precision from the fairway.
There are many small but important accessories to use when golfing to make your game better and less stressful. A golf tee is a wooden or plastic object that resembles a nail with a small cup on top. These are used to hold the ball up off of the ground to make an easier shot. However, a tee may only be used on the first shot of each hole. Gloves for golf are also a very small but very important necessity. The gloves are worn to prevent blisters on the hand and to improve grip, allowing a harder swing and a farther drive. Usually a left handed player wears a glove on his right hand and a right handed player wears a glove on his left hand.
Towels are important things to keep on hand during your time at the San Diego golf schools. Many golf bags have a ring or clip to which you can attach a towel to. Towels, of course, are to wipe hands, faces, ball surfaces, and club faces. Then we have shoes. The golf shoe is designed with interchangeable metal or plastic spikes on the bottom to improve a golfers control and traction during a swing.
There are some pieces of equipment that you may or may not be exposed to at San Diego golf schools that are useful and helpful during practices, but are illegal in competitions. The first are adhesive pads that can be placed on the surfaces of clubs. These adhesive surfaces create an exaggerated backspin and provide more consistent shots. These are illegal in competition. The next illegal (though useful in practice) things are rangefinders. These can measure the exact distance between where a golfer is standing and the hole. Although they are illegal for the PGA, they do allow individual clubs the option of using them on their course.
Positional guides are invaluable when practicing and learning, but are illegal for competition. Positional guides include things like lasers that project a putting line, special tapes that attach to the club head, and anything else that can do similar tasks.
When you are browsing through San Diego golf schools, if you are interested in some of these gadgets that are illegal, make sure you find out if the golf schools allow them during lessons or at other times on the green.

Five Things You Should Know About Golf

Golf can be played by yourself if not with your friends. If you are just starting out, make sure that the people you plan to play with are aware that you are a beginner. And if you are playing too slowly (which is bound to happen if you're just starting out!), do not hesitate in allowing other groups to play through. After all, this game is both mentally and physically challenging. You might also want to invest time in learning through observation. Remember, it is perfectly okay to indulge in analysis as you watch others play before going for your own practice and applying what you've learn. Once you start playing, you will also discover that the game allows you to indulge in self-analysis. Playing by yourself can be a lot of fun - you will discover your own desire to improve and compete with yourself. It can also be an exercise in concentration to boot. To take it a step further, we can even let you in on a secret: Golf is also a healer of sorts! There are physical benefits to golf, including aerobic exercise from walking, better flexibility, improved fine motor skills, improved depth perception, and improved coordination. For a long time, golf was wrongly considered a less than physically challenging sport. But today, the game is inspiring yoga and Pilates workouts. According to experts, you can get the most out of a round of golf if you walk the course, the length of which could measure about five miles, depending on the course you're playing. Walking surely improves cardiovascular health, builds endurance, and allows you to burn a moderate amount of calories. And if you carry your clubs, you can also get an upper body workout. Besides, hitting the ball can actually improve your hand-eye coordination, and this, as you know, can be useful in many other areas. There are ways to save money, although golf can be expensive. You may want to consider renting your clubs or purchasing used ones that are in good condition. You can also find an inexpensive public golf course or driving range. It's important to educate yourself about the ins and outs, and ups and downs of the golf course you want to try. And if you are unsure of your stamina, get a golf cart!

Improve Your Golf Swing With The Help Of A Golf Fitness Program

There is no doubt that golf is a very popular sport and one of the reasons for that is because almost everyone, regardless of their age or physical condition, can get out on the course and knock a few balls down the fairway. Even the elderly and those with some handicaps can participate thanks to golf cars and aids. However, if you want to be a winner at the game, then it might be helpful if you undertake a golf fitness program.
A fitness program for it is considered to be a must-have for those who are serious about the game, whether they are amateurs or professionals. The demands of the game of golf are rather minimal if you are just playing for fun and for the enjoyment of being out of doors on a regular basis; yet, if you are at all interested in being competitive, then your golf improvement will depend to a large degree on your physical level of fitness.
Oftentimes, even experienced golfers find that they are left with various aches, soreness and stiffness after they play a round of it. This happens because of the stress and strain that is placed on the body as the person goes through the motion of the swing, centralizing in the back in most cases. A good golf fitness program helps strengthen the muscles in the back and this, in turn, can help reduce the pain while also helping to improve your golf swing.
Regular exercise is important for staying in shape and for playing it to your best abilities, especially if it is a competitive game with a group of golf buddies who like to take bets on the round. A good fitness program designed for golfers will help protect your muscles and joints simply by making them stronger and better able to handle the rigors of a vigorous round of it.
The best thing about these golf improvement programs is that they help you to maintain the necessary physical mechanics that support the swing, which is the most important aspect of the game. By doing golf stretching movements and exercises that are part of golf training videos for fitness, you will be able to create and build the correct muscles and also increase joint resistance and flexibility. Combined, this helps to keep you strong and limber at the same time, which will help you to execute the needed moves.
As golfers age, they also need to stay in the best shape possible if they want to feel that their game is always improving rather than diminishing. However, it is easy to spot those older golfers who obviously follow a golf fitness guide because you can see them walking the fairways with a spring in their step. Age does not have to interfere with playing a great round of it that you can brag about all week, but it does require the effort of doing golf exercises on a regular basis.
For the most part it does not require a massive time commitment in order to follow a good golf fitness program. Most people even combine a golf fitness routine with other everyday activities, such as walking. Often, people will first take a brief, brisk walk and then go through the golf stretching routine. You will discover that doing this on a regular basis will deliver amazing results that will make you feel better overall and will improve your game as well.

Walking With A Golf Push Cart

Everyone knows that walking is the most fundamental of all exercise programs. So it makes sense that walking a golf course with a push cart would be considered good for you. This simply has not always been the case though. Due to the start and stop that happens during the round, many have argued that walking with a push cart is not beneficial to your exercise program.
I would suggest that these people have never tried to walk eighteen holes in less than four hours. You basically are taking a 4-5 mile walk every time that you play eighteen holes. In addition, the course has many elevation changes up and down to further add benefits to the activity.
Researcher Gi Magnusson calculates that four hours of playing golf (walking) is comparable to a 45-minute fitness class."
The health benefits of golf are also highlighted in various studies done around the world. Researchers in Sweden found that walking golf equated to 40-percent to 70-percent of the intensity of a maximum aerobic workout, assuming you are walking 18 holes. In the second study cited, cardiologist Dr. Edward A. Palank's study showed that walking golfers reduced their levels of bad cholesterol while keeping their good cholesterol steady; the control group of riding golfers failed to show those good results.
As David Fay of the USGA has written, "We strongly believe that walking is the most enjoyable way to play golf and that the use of carts is detrimental to the game. This negative trend needs to be stopped now before it becomes accepted that riding in a cart is the way to play golf."
Not to sound funny but walking a course gets you closer to the golf course. It is a totally different experience using a push cart across the terrain as opposed to hopping in a regular golf cart. I have found that I am able to learn more about a golf course that I have walked as opposed to those that I ride. Walking with a push cart allows you to gain an appreciation for the nuances of a golf course that just are not visible from a golf cart.
In just the last few years, golf push carts have been revitalized. The baby boomers are retiring and trying to stay in shape as well as the rest of the nation becoming more and more health conscious, using a push cart is much easier than trying to pull a cart or lug a golf bag around the golf course. The new walking golf carts are not your dad's old aluminum tripod with the hard plastic wheels on it. Today, push carts feature tires that look more like bicycle tires that allow you to easily walk the golf course. In addition, there are many golf cart accessories that make you round more enjoyable. Attachments for a water bottle, scorecard, umbrella and even a cell phone are available to have a customized golf cart that helps you enjoy the game.

Proper Maintenance Of Your Golf Grips Improves Golf Swing

Every golfer knows how important a good set of golf clubs is to their game and many golfers spend quite a tidy sum of money to purchase the best quality clubs they can afford. In addition, many golfers also spend a lot of money on private golfing lessons and golf training aids, but sometimes they overlook one simple and fundamental thing; their golf grips.
Outfitting your golf club set with new grips is a very inexpensive and effective way to quickly improve your golf game by helping you have more consistency simply because you can get a better hold on your clubs. With a better and firmer grip, you will also be able to improve your golf swing.
If you have a set of old and worn out golf grips on your set of clubs, then it doesn't really matter is you go out and find the very best golf training available because the condition of the grips will interfere with your ability to play your best game. Any golfer who is serious about the game is aware of the importance of maintaining their golfing equipment in the best condition possible.
Most amateur golfers never even think about the need to change the grips on their clubs. Novices can play for years with the same set of clubs without changing the grips and then wonder why they don't see any improvement in their game, even though they put in time to practice and buy other golf improvement aids and tools, watch all the golf training videos they can get their hands on, and constantly talk about wanting to be a better golfer.
Professional golfers know exactly how important it is to change the grips on their clubs regularly. In fact, some pros will have their clubs re-gripped at the end of every round of a golf tournament or other competitive event they are participating in. The reason they do this is so that their clubs feel exactly the same in their hands every day that they start a new round of play.
This may be overkill for the average golfer, but in the highly competitive environment of today's golf tournaments, the pros are looking for every advantage they can find and they don't like to leave things to chance. If the professional golfers put that much emphasis on making sure their grips are in great condition, then that should be a strong signal to everyone else interested in lowering their scores and improving their game.
The general guidelines for how often to replace grips are as follows. If you play golf an average of one time per week, then the grips on your clubs should be changed once every year. If you frequently play a round two times a week, then you should increase the frequency of replacing the grips to twice a year. If you also get to the driving range once or twice a week, then you should change those grips even more often than that.
You may not need to replace all of the grips on your club set at the same time. It really depends on how often you use your clubs. You can choose to only replace the grips on the clubs that are used more and are starting to feel worn. However, some golfers like to have all of the clubs re-gripped at the same time so that, for awhile at least, all the clubs have the same feel to them.
It is recommended that you monitor the condition of your golf grips and give them a thorough inspection about once every month. If you play more than once a week, then you might even want to check them more frequently. If you notice that your grips look shiny and feel slippery, then they need to be replaced. New grips will feel somewhat sticky and will feel good in your hands. You should enjoy a nice sense of confidence as well.

Golf - An Easy Factual Guide

Golf is a game which is played on a large area, which is not clearly demarcated and usually stretches across large distances. The golf course is not like a simple playing field, and each course is different from the other. Most golf courses comprise nine or eighteen holes. The objective of the game is that the golfer has to strike a ball into a hole, which is usually at some distance from the first strike, and he has to use a minimum number of strokes to do so. The entire golf course is to be completed in this manner, and the ball has to go into every hole. Different types of golf clubs are used to do this, because the place where the golf club lands and then the distance it has to travel again to go nearer the hole or into it has to be taken into account.
Exclusive Hole Designs
As mentioned earlier, a golf course has many holes, and each hole is different from the other. The holes are at varying distances and there will be various obstacles to overcome before reaching each hole. That's why a player has to use disparate clubs, drivers or putters to put the ball into the hole.
Golf originated in Scotland, in Bruntsfield Links, Edinburgh, as far back as 1456 A.D. From there it traveled to the south of England and currently it is played almost everywhere in the world, wherever there is a golf course.
Golf can be played in diverse ways and has different versions. In one, the stroke play is of importance, and the golfer who uses the least number of strokes in completing a course is considered a winner. In another version of the game, called stableford points play, the player who gets the most points is declared the winner of the game. Yet another one comprises match play with may mean completing the course as a single player or a team. The objective of this type of game is to get the lowest score in individual holes.
Whereas earlier golf was played by few people, golf aficionados have gradually increased over the years, especially since the sport has achieved professional status, which has increased its popularity. This, combined with increased sponsorship of the game and big money in playing and endorsements, has made golf a game which has achieved a certain status and public appeal. Famous golfers like Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam have become household names and golf has become a spectator sport which is also televised, so more money goes into the game.

Pros of taking golf lessons:
When you are starting off, believe it or not, you need someone to guide you with stances and the shots/swings. There are chances of getting seriously injured if you do not follow the correct steps.
Golf is said to be the single largest reason for back injury and back pain. So remember technique is very important, not just to improve your game but also to avoid injuries.
Golf lessons will also help you get rid of bad habits/stances and get the correct equipment and shots. Golf coaches generally accompany the student during his/her shots. This helps immensely if you listen to them and follow their tips.
When you are with a coach or a friend may be who plays good golf, you have for yourself a set time when you can learn new shots, unlearn bad stances and concentrate on improving upon your game. Since this time is strictly away from your regular play time, you will have a relaxed mind to learn better.
Whether you are into golfing for a while, many golfers have needed coaches or external help at different stages of their golfing career. So do not hesitate if you feel you need guidance.
Cons of taking golf lessons:
A golf coach will try to correct your wrong shots. You will have to be open to changes. After a certain age, most of us tend to stop taking criticism. In such a case a coach will be a waste of time and money.
All lessons will require you to set aside some time and attend the classes. If you miss one class, then that may harm your learning curve.
A coach will inspect all your moves and comment. If you think continuous attention from someone will not let you relax and would rather distract you, then probably having a coach is not such a good idea for you.
If you are a long time golfer, then probably you have good idea of the game and can learn easily and improve your golfing skills by observing.
Having a coach or taking golf lessons will always be a personal choice. Analyzing the pros and cons will probably help you in setting your goals.

Whether you take the above quote seriously or not is a personal choice, but for every sport, your feet plays and important role as it carries a lot of body weight. What protects our feet and gives it support in return are the shoes that we wear. Thus golfing that involves a lot of walking and the player needs to be on his feet for the entire duration of the play, it is very important that you wear the right kind of shoes. Wrong shoes may end up hurting your spinal cord very badly.
Just as different sports have their footwear like tennis shoes, soccer shoes, running shoes, golf too has golf shoes. All professional players wear golf shoes. Do you need a golf shoe? Let's first see what is special about golf shoes that set these apart from other sports shoes.
The most important part of golf shoes are the walking surfaces; the spikes. Although traditionally they used metal spikes, these days rubber spikes are used so that the playing surface is not damaged and at the same time the player gets a good grip on the undulated surfaces. The traction in golf shoes is what that sets its apart from a sneaker.
Since as a golfer you will be on your feet most of the time, golf shoes are supposed to be rigid. These shoes give you a strong support and a good base for your swing shots. You do want to stay on your feet and not on your back at the end of your swing!
Now let's review the question again whether or not you need golf shoes.
If you are considering playing golf in long terms and do spend at least a day on the field in a week, it is advisable that you go for a golf shoe. The more you are careful about your gait, your support and your feet, the longer will be your golfing career. Slipping on a muddy area and injuring yourself just because you were wearing the wrong shoes will not be very wise!
On the other hand if you are happy with your athletic shoe, stick to that as long as it gives you a good tread and strong support to your ankle. The tire pattern for tread is often considered to be good.
If however you plan to buy golf shoes look for the following:
Allow spaces for your toes to wiggle when you wear the shoes.
High-quality spikes that can be replaced.
Ensure that your toes are not getting pinched nor the back of your shoe is riding up.
So next time that you are out there teeing or golfing, do keep an eye on the shoes you are tying up; the shoes should give you support, grip and comfort.
